Life lesson: Birthdays should be celebrated
Today was Hawkie's birthday and we were all chuffed that we could celebrate it with her. She is such a wonderful, kind person who is always looking after everyone, it was nice to be able to do something for her. The walk was much easier today, just 22km, as the others were exhausted after their horrid wet day yesterday. I, naturally, was feeling refreshed after a break, but was trying not to show it!
Sunshine on my shoulders,
Brown mud oozes invitingly.
My sandals search for a sensible gravel trail.
Ice capped mountains on all sides,
Sarah's generous smile.
A gentle breeze blows a reminder to look up.
An ancient picnic spot.
Juicy oranges, apples and nut chocolate.
Up a long, steady climb, a town reveals itself.
Ghostlike apartment towers and a golf course.
The perfect spot for a celebration.
Happy birthday Sarah.
Enjoy the rabbit paella,
And thank you for your kindness, frivolity and army preparedness.
We all love you very much.
